LADY HOCHOY VOCATIONAL CENTRE
"To Provide an environment for persons with mental retardation, to enable them to achieve their full potential for integration into the mainstram of a well-informed society."
The Lady Hochoy Vocational Centre was established on the 5th of October, 1994. It is a Non-Governmental Organization which comes under the umbrella of the Trinidad and Tobago Association for Retarded Children. It serves as a follow-up program which provides vocational training for adults with intellectual disabilities.
PROGRAMMES AND SERVICES
Group and individual plans are tailored and developed to meet the needs of trainees. The centre implements these plans via various programmes of vocational training. Programmes included are:
Sport and other activities
The Vocational Training programme prepares trainees for prospective employment. The ability of the trainees to learn basic academic are important considerations in our goals. The centre also promotes the development of the physical, creative, emotional and social skills of the trainees. The skills offered at the centre include Woodwork, Sewing, Agriculture, Food Preparation, Handicraft, Art and Craft, Housekeeoing, Haidressing, Computer literacy, Recycling bottles and Cake decorating.
The centre provides a wide range of business services to individuals and enterprises. Contract work services are provided to both local and foreign enterprises. These business services include Sewing, Painting, Woodwork, Food preparation, Cake making and Bottle recycling.
Job palcement is an important aspect of the centre's vocational training, since it epitomizes the ultimate goal of the organzation. The centre partners with businesses within the community to provide employment for trainees that match the abilities of the vocational training. Many trainees have been quite efficient and successful in jobs that match their ability, ointerest them and meet their needs.
ON THE JOB TRAINING
The Lady Hochoy Vocational centre has partnered with this Trinidad and Tobago's Ministry Science, Technology and Tertiary Education to provide its trainees with an opportunity to be a part of the On The Job Trainig Prograame. Trainees can now therefore have two year training in vocational skills and can receive certification as being trained within this this program. The certification in nationally recognized.
